I'm Paula Paschoal, a visual artist and art educator.
I was born and raised in the city of Rio Claro, São Paulo, BR, on 11/28/1959. My passion for drawing began at a young age.
At the age of 8, I participated in my first children's art salon. At school, I was always chosen to be the group's designer and received good grades in drawing classes taught by the esteemed teacher Jurema. At approximately 10 years old, I decided that I would become a painter after visiting an art exhibition promoted by the city hall.
At the age of 14, my father enrolled me in the painting studio of the renowned and beloved artist Ilara Machado, my great teacher and encourager. With her, I learned to work with dry pastel and oil painting, following the academic style. Still life became my main theme with an emphasis on metal objects made of copper, gold, or silver.
At the age of 22, I took a specialization course in the art of jewelry at the studio of the jewelry artist Ricardo Mattar, and later at the Escola Nova de Joalheria de São Paulo, receiving classes from artists and jewelers Caio Mourão and Marco Duailibi.
My passion for art only increased over the years. I started sending my works to art salons and exhibitions, receiving awards and great feedback from judging committees and the visiting public.
After visiting museums and exhibitions featuring great masters of the Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, and many other "isms," my academic style began to embrace other styles, and my themes began to encompass a broader range. Nowadays, I don’t stick to one theme. I draw inspiration from various sources, which is reflected in my work.
In 1994, I moved to the city of Santos, São Paulo. There, I met artists who invited me to exhibit my work at Jardim das Artes, an art fair managed by the Municipality of Santos. I participated in this fair for 10 years. During this period, I was pleased to once again receive public recognition, selling my works to various places around the world such as Japan, USA, England, Croatia, Portugal, among others.
In 2005, I enrolled in the Degree in Artistic Education with an emphasis on Fine Arts at Santa Cecília de Santos University. I complemented it with a Latu-Sensu Postgraduate Degree in Visual Arts, where I studied other artistic expressions.
After my university studies, I started teaching Art in formal schools and joined the Mariana Quito Engraving Studio, maintained by the Santos Department of Culture. Engraving artist, art educator, and advisor Marcia Santtos taught courses in metal engraving, wood engraving, collage engraving, among others, introducing young people and adults to the enchanting world of engraving art. I remained with Grupo Gravura Mariana Quito until the studio closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite strong appeals from the engraving artists and admirers, the engraving studio was not reopened at the end of the pandemic.
In 2022, after the harsh pandemic, I left teaching in classrooms to dedicate myself entirely to artistic practice, a decision I made long ago in my childhood.
I invite you to visit the website, see my works, and, if you wish, purchase them. I would be very pleased with your visit.
