Woodcut

Wood engraving is a printing technique that uses carved wooden blocks to create images. In the woodcut process, the artist carves a relief design into the surface of a block of wood, leaving the areas he wants to print highlighted. After the carving is complete, the surface of the block is coated with paint and pressed firmly against the paper, thus transferring the carved image. Woodcut printing is known for producing prints with a distinctive visual quality, characterized by the texture of the wood and the clear impression of the carved areas. It is a versatile and historically relevant technique, widely used in printed art, book illustrations and fine art prints.
